Common Use

Loniten is used to treat severe high blood pressure (hypertension) that has not responded to other treatments. It works by relaxing and widening blood vessels, allowing blood to flow more easily and reducing blood pressure.

Dosage and Direction

Take Loniten exactly as prescribed, usually once or twice daily. It should be taken with food or milk to reduce stomach irritation and always in combination with a diuretic and beta-blocker to prevent fluid retention and fast heartbeat.

Precautions

Before starting Loniten, inform your doctor if you have heart failure, kidney disease, or a history of stroke. Regular monitoring of blood pressure, heart rate, and fluid balance is essential during treatment.

Contraindications

Do not use Loniten if you are allergic to minoxidil or if you have a pheochromocytoma (a rare adrenal tumor). It is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding unless absolutely necessary.

Possible Side Effect

Common side effects include increased heart rate, swelling of hands or feet, and excessive hair growth. Serious effects may include chest pain, shortness of breath, or significant fluid retention.

Drug Interaction

Loniten may interact with other antihypertensives, especially diuretics and beta-blockers. Inform your doctor about all medications and supplements you are taking.

Missed Dose

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as possible. If it’s nearly time for your next dose, skip the missed one—do not double up.

Overdose

Overdose may cause dangerously low blood pressure and heart complications. Immediate medical attention is required in the event of suspected overdose.

Storage

Store at room temperature, away from moisture and light. Keep Loniten out of reach of children and pets.
